Can Americans Play on Full Tilt Poker?
 |

When it comes to Americans and online poker, there is plenty of misinformation floating around. Some of it is from people who just don't know any better, and some is from people who benefit from having people fear that online poker is "illegal".
The fact of the matter is, the recently introduced UIGEA regulations pertain to the funding of an account, and not the actual playing of online poker.
UIGEA (when it is introduced in December of 2009) will make it so that US-based banks will be fined if they process online gambling transactions. BANKS will be fined - not individual players.
Online poker is not "illegal", and police officers aren't going to kick down your door if you open up an account at Full Tilt Poker. They just won't.
You might have a neighbor that is warning you about playing online poker, because they "heard that it is illegal".
Or maybe you have heard a misinformed Washington politician mentioning that online poker is "illegal" and is used to funnel money to terrorists. This is all complete ridiculousness and totally untrue. There are many publicly traded companies that are heavily involved in the online poker industry - companies that are regulated and closely watched. Would these companies be funneling money to terrorists? Doubt it.
So if you are an American citizen and are nervous about playing online poker - don't be. Just declare your taxes and you'll be fine. Having said that - be sure to check the laws in your individual state as they pertain to online poker.
